After visitng the Carrefour (a huge supermarket orginiating from a small family in the Island of France in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois) I decided to take a browse through the granola/cereal bars section. I felt it appropriate to review a bar this weak instead of a cereal. I happened across this bar which I was not familiar with. We don´t have them where I´m from and I have not noticed them in the other markets here in Spain. Perhaps I was not looking hard enough.
Doing some cursory research aka googling, I discovered that "Corny" is actually a german brand originating from the municipality of "Bad Schwartau"; a lovely village situated on the Trave river and Schwartau creek. Close to the Baltic sea.
Now how did they do? Let´s get to some reviewing.

A common theme with these types of products is the simple packaging. You get the name of the company (Corny), the name of the specific product (CRUNCH), a brief description the main ingredients (Crunchy from the oven, oats and honey), a photo of the actaul product within, and a brief garnish to add some flair. All layed out over s simple light colour for contrast. It is likely evident by now that I am a fan of this style of box design. It´s not too much and it gets the job across perfectly. I know what I´m buying. As we will get into shortly, this is another honest boc. The bar does look like the one presented o the box. We also se a brief message saying "Ideal para el cafe" or "Ideal for coffee" which they write again on the back of the box.

"With coffee or without. Take a bar and relax!"
They are fairly adament that I consume these bars with a coffee. Of course I am happy to oblige as I am a coffee lover as well. But before we get into the taste and flavour we must briefly discuss the bar packaging as well.

The wrapped bars have a design that coincides perfectly with the box. I am very happy with this design. On the right side they even placed a little photo of the bar and a little photo of the honey as well. In case you forgot that there was honey in this bar, I supposse. Note that on the package there is an illustration of a pack with the number 2. To signify there are two bars within. I´m not sure why that´s necessary but it is somewhat humorous.

Now we can get to the taste section of this review!
Firstly as seen above, the bars look exactly like that which is depicted on the box. This always brings me joy. Corny has not lied to me. The are made of incredibly dense and crunchy oats glued together with a healthy dose of -you guessed it- honey. Naturally this is a very crumbly bar as well. For me that is actualy a plus but not everyone is a fan of the potential mess. I tend to think more crumble equals more crunc and this item packs a lot of crunch. The honey does a good job of keeping everything together however. It must be noted that this is a food item without much in the way of additives, but it does hold more sugar than I would prefer. Most of that sugar is natural from the honey, but there is added suagr as well. Making this bar a little too sweet. Delicious due to the very simple ingredients, but sweet.
The packaging did almost beg me to try it with coffee, so I did.

I dipped and I mixed. I tried all fluid/solid consumption strategies there are. I drink black coffee, so for me the coffee countered the richness of the bar quite well. If you put sugar in your coffee you may have a different experince than I did. Or if you are a milky-coffee drinker that way also change things. However milk may actually add to the experience in a breakfast cereal way rather than a sweetness overload type of way. I of course recommend pairning that food item with black coffee regardless of your coffee consuming habits. It yields a good balance of bitter and sweet.
I reccommend this product. It is good for a quick snack, it will give you that little boost of energy during a hike, and it is also a nice item to enjoy first thing in the morning with a hot cup of black coffee. Like how I have been enjoying them and like it suggests to you on the box. Take a bar and relax!
Can I get this in Canada?
